WELL… THAT WAS EPIC.
2018 WRAPPED UP:
As this was the first ever Morzine Film Awards, no one really knew what to expect. We wanted to kick it off with a bang and set the tone for the future of the festival, so we decided to put our own unique spin on the idea of film award ceremonies, with the idea being to make it Morzine’s very own, ridiculous, version of the Oscars.
To celebrate everyone involved in the films, both in front of and behind the camera, we built a VIP area where each team had their own table. We told them to dress to impress and bathed them in free champagne and pizza. The red carpet led from the tables up onto the stage where VIP host Nick Coates from bro! Clothing would host the ceremony.
As the 1100 people in the crowd eagerly waited for the films to begin, Nick hid among them. The lights dimmed and the screen went black, before AC/DC’s Highway To Hell began blasting out of the speakers. The crowd roared with excitement as Nick ran up the red carpet, high-fiving all the teams. “ARE YOU READY FOR THE MORZINE FILM AWARDS?!”
The teams sprayed each other with Champagne and the audience in turns roared with laughter and gasped in awe as the films played through, each one more spectacular than the last. We saw lightsabers, virtual reality, magic potions, car chases, a floating dog and a skier backflipping a river.
When the dust settled the awards were handed out and Team Rapture took the first ever MFA Title, presented by X Games gold medalist and Winter Olympian James ‘Woodsy’ Woods.
